Scarring

The largest organ of your body is your skin, composed of three primary layers: the outermost layer known as the epidermis, followed by the dermis, and finally the hypodermis. These layers serve as a protective barrier against external factors like UV rays, bacteria, and environmental elements, while also contributing to the production of vitamin D through exposure to sunlight. Regions containing sebaceous glands, particularly the face, back, and chest, are susceptible to acne.

If you have scarring, it's probable that you possess a combination of the subsequent scar types. It's infrequent for someone to solely exhibit boxcar scars or exclusively keloid scars, etc. Each of these variations can be addressed with differing levels of effectiveness.

Atrophic or Depressed Scarring

  • Boxcar: Indentations with well-defined, sharp edges characterize boxcar scars. These scars penetrate deeply into the skin and are often found on the lower cheeks and jaw.
  • Ice pick: Resembling the tool it's named after, this scar type has a wide opening at the surface that tapers down to a point as it extends into the skin. It's a common indentation, yet one of the more challenging scars to treat. Typically located on the forehead and upper cheeks, where the skin is thinner.
  • Hypertrophic or Keloid Scars: These scar formations rise above the skin's surface. They develop due to the excessive growth of collagen-rich fibrous tissue in the skin region. Predominantly located on the chest, back, shoulders, jawline, they can induce sensations of itchiness, tenderness, or discomfort.
  • Rolling: These scars tend to appear on the lower cheeks and jaw, where the skin is thicker. They exhibit indentations with gently sloping edges, resulting in an uneven and undulating skin texture.
